Fan Map Showing China, Japan, and Korea in the 1870s. Apparently designed for gentry-administrators in China, this fan map was probably made in Shanghai in the late nineteenth century. A note on the left side states that, because of the size and shape of the fan, the island of Taiwan was displaced northward. The size of Korea is also exaggerated. The map includes all administrative divisions for mainland China down to the county level and also lists them on the reverse side. It gives less detail for the island of Taiwan, Korea, and Japan.
